One More Sleep to the 8k

Our big race is almost upon us.... The course is getting a final check this evening, water station is arranged - at the 4k marker beside the Rugby Pitch, km markers are being put up.... Final Arrangements Registration at Forest Park Car Park from 11am tomorrow morning Cost €10 for over 18s and €5 for under 18s or students Race starts and finishes in Car Park This is a trail race, so be aware that you will not always be on a tarred surface Race will start at 12. Midday sharp See you all in the morning and best of luck to everyone.

The Portumna 8k Forest Race will be held on Sunday, 30th June at 12.00pm at Portumna Forest Park. This event is part of the Great Outdoors Festival Portumna. The race will be run over solid forest roads and tarmac, and will bring you through the beautiful forest park. You will also run beside Portumna Castle and Priory, as well as beside Lough Derg. Registration will be held in the Forest Park Car Park from 10.30am. The Car Park will be signed from all entrances to the town. The course will be marked at each km and the final km will be marked home so that you can time your burst to the finish line. Hate Hills??? This is a flat course!!! Cost to you: Adults €10 and Under 18's €5. Keep checking the blog as we get closer to the big day for more important information. Looking forward to seeing you on the day!!

Post Race Round-up

Hi Runners

Well done and thanks to all who completed today's race - the results are posted below.  Congratulations to David Reilly, Loughrea AC, who won in a great time of 29:29.  Caroline Burke kept the Portumna flag flying by being the first lady to finish in a very respectable 36:50.  Cillian Walsh took the Junior Section prize in 41:57, in what was his first 8k race, a super achievement for him.

Runners were blessed with perfect weather conditions on a flat course.  Particular thanks to those who travelled today, and it was great to chat with runners from clubs throughout Galway and Tipperary in particular. 

The unsung heroes of these days are the Marshalls and other organisers, many of whom were 'chomping at the bit' to be on the start line. 

We hoped that you enjoyed the day and that you will join us again next year for this race.  On the basis of the turnout and feedback from today, we believe that this is a race that people of all abilities will enjoy.
